@JoshuaSGoodman OK. One free day in Tokyo. I think a tour isn't a bad idea, but my advice will assume not. My #1 thought is macro: MUCH better to focus on one part of the city rather than try to see all the "top sights." And use your university visits to do some exploring in their areas.

@JoshuaSGoodman I would suggest you center your free day on the triangle from Shibuya-Omotesando-Harajuku/Meiji-jingu. You can cover on foot and get youth culture, luxury culture, and religious culture.

@JoshuaSGoodman Extend south along the Toyoko train line (through Daikanyama and Nakameguro) for more of a design focus. Extend north to Shinjuku for more of a Blade Runner focus.

@JoshuaSGoodman GRIPS is near Roppongi, and you can try to get a brief feel for that when you're there. U Tokyo (i.e., Todai) is in the older part of Tokyo. Try to walk around a bit there, maybe by Ueno park and the market at Ameya-yokocho.

@JoshuaSGoodman Obviously lots and lots more to see (Sensoji temple! Imperial palace! Ginza! Akihabara! The fish market!...), but I think Tokyo is a city where trying to tick the boxes is a big mistake relative to exploring a few neighborhoods in more detail. ---Fin---
