@tyleransom We (ASU finance) have admitted PhD students from other programs—I can think of econ and physics examples. Definitely important to make a strong case for why things they didn’t like about old program won’t apply to ours. 1/2

@tyleransom Not just about applying and marketing, but fundamentally about whether student is likely to be happy. I would think that for econ → policy, a positive/pull case (policy programs offer X, which I’d value) is better than a negative/push one (econ involves Y, which I dislike). 2/2
