@C__Kronenberg @Stata 🦾🤖🤳🏼 (btw, I’m basically certain that your file always winds up smaller than it started. But if the strings are consistently short, the strL conversion can require more overhead than the encoding saves; that’s why compress sometimes converts back from strL to regular string.)
