@gbenga_ajilore @EmilyNix100 @arpitrage I suspect—sadly—that their experience IS likely very different than that of most authors whose papers I referee (this is of course the vast majority of referee reports I ever see, and those authors are presumably overwhelmingly non-Black).

@gbenga_ajilore @EmilyNix100 @arpitrage Just to extend: As a white male economist who’s mainly been around a highly-nonrandom subset of the profession (disproportionately finance-adjacent folks with disproportinately prestigious institutional-affiliations), I don’t have any illusions that what I see is universal

@gbenga_ajilore @EmilyNix100 @arpitrage And ref assignemnts are highly non-random; several things (incl. my own work’s conclusions consistent with ∃ of discrim) mean I may be disproportintely exposed to other referees who know that OF COURSE discrimination is endemic, so focus on mechanisms, determinants, remedies.

@gbenga_ajilore @EmilyNix100 @arpitrage On further reflection, I realize my experience is sufficiently likely to be unrepresentative that describing it may have been hurtful or counterproductive. I’m deleting these tweets (screenshotted here, though), which I regret. [cc: @Aliceyjun]
