  1. Both my parents—NYC residents—have now received their first vaccine doses!🎉 But my 81-year old dad, after showing up at his appointment time, had to wait standing 2+ hours in line indoors in a hospital. Masked, sure, but come on America.

A bit more detail from dad. No chairs; some people (all age 75+) sat on the floor, getting up every few minutes to move six feet to the next spot. He said one woman had trouble getting up so they let her stay in one spot on the floor and routed the line around her for 90 minutes.

“Everything was spotlessly clean. Everyone wore masks and was in surprisingly good spirits. Occasionally they’d let hospital staff cut the line and get vaccinated first but there wasn’t much grumbling about that.”

Apparently the main delay was that while there were four largely idle “vaccinators,” there was only one “intake person” handling HIPAA paperwork, age verification, etc. Dad reports they seemed VERY CONCERNED about age verification lest anyone under 75 sneak through.
