    @EconDadJokes N wires gives you N-1 voltage differences (roughly, if you’re sending electrons they need a way to get back?). So with TS you get one, but it is both signal and noise.

      @EconDadJokes With TRS you get two paths and balanced audio sends the same signal in opposite phase. Since each is hit with the same noise you can difference them to eliminate the noise (like using IV to “eliminate” measurement error). Better sound!

        @EconDadJokes (More common in consumer audio to use TRS’s two paths to send a stereo left and right—in which case noise—rather than a balanced mono signal)
